Hi, I'm Jason. I help business owners understand their numbers and make better decisions with them.

I've spent more than 25 years in accounting and finance. I started in public accounting, then spent years as a Controller and later a CFO, which is where you learn what the financials look like once they've been cleaned up for the auditors versus what they look like on a Tuesday when someone asks how much cash is actually available.

Most of my work now is fractional CFO work. I sit inside a business as its finance person, without anyone having to hire one full time. I also handle tax preparation and bookkeeping for clients who want it, but the CFO work is where I spend most of my time. I'm a CPA licensed in Virginia, and I take on CFO and accounting clients across the country.

I work best with businesses doing $1M to $15M in annual revenue. Much smaller and you probably don't need a CFO yet. Much bigger and you probably need one full time, not fractional.

Erica, who's also my wife, runs operations behind the scenes. Her background is in training, project management, and enterprise software implementation. Client onboarding and the internal systems run the way they do because she built them that way.

The name Metric CFO comes from two places. First, I'm Canadian, and the metric system always made sense to me. It's precise. It works the same way everywhere.

Second, that's also what metrics do for a business. They tell you where you stand right now, and they let you put a reasonable number on next quarter. More than that, they give you something solid to point to when you're deciding whether to hire, raise prices, or hold off. That decision is most of the job.

Outside of work, I've got four kids ranging from elementary school to college, plus two who are grown and off the payroll. I also try to carve out time with Erica, and I volunteer with the local fire department, which means the occasional 2am call and a day of being fairly useless afterward.
